Fujifilm Launches In-Clinic UP/C Test for Dogs and Cats

Fujifilm Healthcare Europe has launched a rapid in-clinic diagnostic tool for measuring urine protein/creatinine (UP/C) ratio in dogs and cats. Announced on 21 September 2026, the FVet FUJI DRI-CHEM SLIDE v-UPC enables veterinary practices to perform quantitative UP/C testing in approximately five minutes, supporting earlier detection and monitoring of chronic kidney disease (CKD), one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in older companion animals.

The FVet FUJI DRI-CHEM SLIDE v-UPC measures urine protein and creatinine levels quantitatively and is compatible with Fujifilm’s existing FUJI DRI-CHEM analyser platform, including the FDC4000, NX500, NX600 and NX700 models. Full UPC calculation is supported on NX600V and NX700V models with updated software, with a dedicated diluent (v-DL) ensuring precise measurements across the wide range required to detect high creatinine levels. The automated five-minute test can be performed entirely in-clinic, reducing diagnosis turnaround time. Quantitative UP/C testing is a critical marker for assessing kidney function and guiding early intervention in CKD.

The launch extends Fujifilm’s FUJI DRI-CHEM analyser franchise in the veterinary sector and intensifies competitive pressure across the growing in-clinic veterinary diagnostics category. Companion animal CKD, particularly in cats, represents a major diagnostic and therapeutic market segment, with early detection increasingly emphasised across veterinary practice guidelines. The launch places Fujifilm in direct competition with dominant in-clinic diagnostics players IDEXX Laboratories (Catalyst platform and Cystatin B early CKD marker), Zoetis Diagnostics (VETSCAN, i-STAT), and Antech (Mars Petcare, incorporating Heska and Scil Animal Care), alongside regional specialists including Woodley and Randox.

The commercial signal is a rapidly maturing in-clinic veterinary diagnostics category where early CKD detection is emerging as a key competitive differentiator. Ageing companion animal populations drive substantial structural demand.
