Zoetis UK Launches Lenivia 3-Month Canine OA Injection
Zoetis UK has launched Lenivia (izenivetmab injection), a long-acting monoclonal antibody (mAb) therapy delivering up to three months of osteoarthritis (OA) pain alleviation in dogs from a single subcutaneous injection. Announced on 25 September 2026, the launch extends Zoetis’s dominant canine pain franchise into quarterly dosing, following a decade of development and pivotal nine-month European field study data supporting sustained pain reduction with effects observed from day seven.
Lenivia was designed to address one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions in dogs, with the extended three-month dosing interval positioned as a major compliance advantage over shorter-duration alternatives requiring monthly injections or daily oral treatments. Pivotal nine-month European field study data demonstrated sustained reduction in pain across the treatment period, with clinical effects observed from as early as day seven after the first injection. Tim Burgess, General Manager at Zoetis UK, positioned Lenivia as giving veterinary professionals in Great Britain a new long-acting option, with the longer dosing interval supporting owner compliance in a condition that requires ongoing management.
The launch extends Zoetis’s already dominant canine pain and OA franchise, which includes the monthly anti-NGF monoclonal antibody Librela (bedinvetmab). Lenivia directly challenges shorter-cycle daily oral NSAID franchises from Elanco (Onsior – robenacoxib, Rimadyl – carprofen, Galliprant), Boehringer Ingelheim (Metacam – meloxicam) and generic meloxicam alternatives from Norbrook (Loxicom) and Chanelle (Rheumocam). The three-month dosing interval represents a significant commercial differentiator for practices supporting long-term OA management, particularly for chronic cases in older dogs, and reinforces Zoetis’s category leadership in the growing canine pain management category.
The commercial signal is a rapidly evolving canine osteoarthritis pain management category where dosing interval extensions from monthly to quarterly are emerging as key competitive differentiators. Zoetis’s dominant OA franchise strengthens further. Expect Boehringer Ingelheim, Elanco, MSD Animal Health, Vetoquinol, Norbrook and Chanelle to sharpen their canine OA and pain management positioning through the rest of 2026 and 2027.
