Signs it’s time to leave your current role
For some, it’s fairly obvious that it’s time to move on and look for a new challenge, but for others, it may take someone else to point it out, or it suddenly dawns on them that they spend too much time in the office than out of it. Some pick up on the signs quickly and act upon it by trying to improve the situation, or they will bury their head in the sand and make it outs not as bad as they have made out. Others don’t realise how bad the situation really was until they are not in it anymore.
Do you find yourself having more bad days than good at the office? The odd bad day is the norm as not everything is perfect, but how do you know when to give the second chances, and when it’s time to leave? Here are 10 tell tell signs that your job isn’t a good fit anymore:
- You wake up and dread going to work
Do you go to bed and dread having to get up to go to work? Or do you wake up in the morning and don’t have the feeling of excitement like you did when you first started working there? Doing a job that you’re not passionate about or doesn’t excite you will not help you to reach your full potential, and eventually it will become something you dread doing.
- You procrastinate more than you work
Do you get to the end of the day and wonder what you have done or achieved, or find you are spending more time watching Facebook videos than actually doing your day to day work? Everyone has an odd day when they can’t concentrate, but if you are finding this is becoming more of a regular occurrence, then maybe it’s time to think about what would interest you, and see what’s available.
- Your health is starting to suffer
Is work beginning to affect your physical and mental wellbeing- are your friends and family beginning to becoming affected? Are you not getting enough sleep as you’re concerned with all the work you need to do? This would be a good time to say something to bosses to see if this can be reduced, or it may be time to leave.
- There is no room for growth or progression
If you’re looking for a role that will grow with you, then don’t waste your time in a role that won’t support you and give you the opportunities you crave. You could end up resenting the company and could hinder your career in the long run.
- You dislike the people you work with
You’re not going to get on with everyone that you work with, but as you spend half of your lifetime working, it’s important to work with people that you like and get on with. You can try to work out the difference you have with your ‘work family’, but sometimes they are just not fixable.
- The environment is negative
You may like the job but this type of environment can be toxic. If your colleagues are constantly complaining about everything and your boss is never happy, this will leave you feeling unmotivated, and can kill the passion you had.
- You’re constantly stressed/unhappy at work
If you get stressed or unhappy thinking about work. This is a good sign that it’s time to do something about it and look at moving on.
You don’t believe in the company anymore.
You start to feel there are ethical and/or moral differences in how the company operate and what you believe in how they should operate. You start to notice there are some cultural differences, and you become morally misaligned which will make an uncomfortable place for you to work in.
The company culture isn’t working for you
If you have tried to negotiate a flexible working schedule with your current employer but have not been able to get what you’re looking for. You will never be satisfied and may need to consider other companies that can accommodate your preferred lifestyle.
You can’t voice your opinion in your job,
You should be able to share your thoughts and opinions at work, as well as be able to speak up for yourself.
