Top Tips for Crafting an Effective Animal Health CV

Luca Sedicina
Clarity & Structure
Firstly, clarity is vital. Ensure that your CV is well-structured, with a clear delineation of sections such as education, experience, and skills. A recruiter’s time is precious, and a concise, organized CV stands out.
Tailoring Your CV
Tailor your CV for the specific role you’re applying for. Highlight relevant skills and experiences that align with the requirements of the Animal Health industry. If you are an RVN – include your specialisms whether that be anaesthesia or surgery, highlighting your key responsibilities not just general nursing duties if you are keen to progress into a commercial role
RVNs seeking commercial moves – highlight your commercial acumen and motivation to move into a commercial role, do you have previous commercial experience? Or responsibilities in practice which have a commercial focus? What makes you stand out?
Quantify Achievements
Quantify your achievements where possible. Whether it’s successful project outcomes, research publications, or improvements in animal health outcomes, quantifiable data adds substance to your CV and demonstrates tangible contributions. Highlight both products and customer bases which you have worked with – pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, equipment, independent practices, corporate groups. Name drop if you can! Which specific accounts have you managed?
Networking
Don’t underestimate the power of networking and affiliations. Include memberships in professional organizations, attendance at conferences like the London Vet Show, or any active participation within the veterinary community.
Passion for Animal Health
Lastly, let your passion for Animal Health shine through. Make sure that your CV is personalised – what are your hobbies / interests? Do these relate to the industry you are hoping to go in to? Demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for the field adds a personal touch that resonates with recruiters.
