Over a million NHS employees are to be given pay rises over the next three years, following an agreement between ministers and union leaders.
Salaries will go up by at least 6.5 percent, while 29 percent will be the biggest rise available.
This means that the minimum any full-time NHS worker can expect to earn will be GBP 18,005.
The agreement now needs to be voted on by staff, and if they agree by the summer, any pay rises will be backdated to April.
Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, acknowledged that both sides had to make compromises, with neither the trade unions or the Department of Health and Social Care getting everything they wanted to achieve.
However, he said the primary objective of all participants in the talks was the same – the recruitment and retention of NHS staff.
Mr Mortimer added that this three-year deal gives them a "really important platform to take action in other areas to make sure the NHS becomes again the most desirable employer in the country".
