3M agrees deal to acquire Arizant

10th September 2010

3M is expanding its offering of medical device technology by signing an $810 million (524.4 million pounds) deal to acquire Arizant.

The agreement will see 3M take control of a company which is expected to generate around $200 million during the current fiscal year, via sales of its market-leading patient warming solutions for surgical settings.

Arizant helped to create the forced-air patient warming market with the launch of the Bair Hugger product in 1987, technology which helps surgical patients to avoid hypothermia, site infections and other complications.

Its range of products, which also includes the Bair Paws adjustable warming gown and Ranger blood and fluid warming system, will complement 3M's existing offerings in the healthcare sector.

Debra Rechtenwald, president and general manager of 3M's infection prevention division, said: "Its rich intellectual property portfolio and solid technology platforms expand 3M's infection prevention offerings and will help drive growth internationally."

According to 3M's most recent financial report in July 2010, the company's healthcare division saw a 5.7 per cent growth in sales during the second quarter of the year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800060244-ADNFCR
