3M completes acquisition of Financiere Burgienne

3M has announced the completion of its acquisition of number plate provider Financiere Burgienne.

While terms of the deal were not revealed, Financiere Burgienne – which provides its products under the Faab and Fabricauto brand in France – and 3M will now "better serve" customers in the country by jointly participating in the government’s Systeme d’Immatriculation des Vehicules (SIV).

The SIV registration programme, to be launched on January 1st 2009, will mean new and used vehicles in France will receive a new number plate featuring a regional logo and new identification number, 3M explained.

3M was the inventor of reflective sheeting, used on road signs and vehicles – and supplies printed, reflective number plate films to Financiere Burgienne’s brands.

"As an established provider of license plates distributed throughout France, Faab and Fabricuato are in a unique position to serve the motorist needs created by the new SIV," the company continued.
