3M launches stethoscope tele-auscultation software

19th November 2010

3M has announced the launch of new software for its Littmann Electronic Stethoscope Model 3200, which allows for the transfer of high-quality real-time sound data.

The 3M Littmann Scope-to-Scope Tele-Auscultation System has been designed to allow patient sounds to be digitally captured and sent from one stethoscope to another anywhere across the globe.

It overcomes the sound quality issues of previous tele-auscultation solutions, meaning that heart, lung or body sound information can be sent instantly to remote locations and heard with perfect fidelity.

This will make it easier for doctors to consult with other clinicians elsewhere in the world, as well as allowing patients to receive examinations without needing to travel.

Ingrid Blair, vice-president of patient assessment at 3M's infection prevention division, said: "From major metropolitan areas to our most remote regions, 3M Littmann products are providing the tools to break through the sound quality barrier and redefine the nature of patient care."

Earlier this year, the Littmann Electronic Stethoscope Model 3200 earned 3M a gold award at the Edison Best New Products Award gala in New York.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800246410-ADNFCR
