3M signs agreement for DPI technology platform

12th December 2008

3M Drug Delivery Systems has signed an exclusive technology and purchase agreement for a Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) technology platform.

Cambridge Consultants’ Conix DPI – also known as reverse-flow cyclone – technology will improve "3M’s capability to provide partner pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with innovative drug delivery solutions," according to James Vaughan, division vice-president.

It will also allow 3M to "offer new and exciting drug delivery alternatives", he added.

Conix comprises a variety of different types of inhalers, such as multi-unit dose devices used for routine therapies for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and inhalers applicable for immunisations.

It will now form part of 3M’s expansive inhalation technology platform, which includes pressurised metered-dose inhalers and components such as valves, cans and dose counters, the company said.
