3M to launch updated version of True Definition Scanner

3M has announced the launch of an updated version of its 3M True Definition Scanner, offering improved digital scanning performance for dentists and orthodontists.

The next-generation system includes a revolutionary new wand that provides the slimmest profile of any on the market. It is designed to fit in the hand like a traditional dental handpiece, facilitating one-handed scanning and making it easier to reach the challenging posterior anatomy.

It will be released in tandem with version 5.0 of 3M's True Definition Scanner Software, supporting faster, easier scanning with the same superior accuracy.

Once the field is prepared, a skilled user will be able to scan a diagnostic arch in as little as 60 seconds using the new system.

David Frazee, vice-president and general manager of 3M Digital Oral Care, said: "Not only is this wand the smallest on the market, but it's designed to be incredibly intuitive, comfortable to hold and fast and easy to use."

Existing True Definition Scanner impressions have been used to create thousands of cases to date, offering a clinically proven fit rate of 99.7 percent.
