AAH Pharmaceuticals calls for clearer generics plan from DoH

15th April 2010

AAH Pharmaceuticals has called on the Department of Health (DoH) to provide more details on its plans to allow automatic generic substitutions.

The company has made a submission to the DoH for it to confer with wholesalers, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and patient medication record providers over its proposals.

It said this will be necessary to ensure that suggested notice periods for substitutions are sufficient to allow stocks to be managed and systems to be updated.

Mark James, group managing director at AAH Pharmaceuticals, urged the government to be mindful of the key role the medical supply industry plays in UK healthcare provision.

He added: “It is therefore vital that prior to any changes to that supply chain, such as generic substitution, the practical implications are fully addressed.”

Last month, the company announced the appointment of Nigel Draper as its commercial director, with Mr James welcoming the extensive business experience he can bring to the role.
