AAH reports ‘sufficient’ flu vaccine stock levels

13th January 2011

AAH has moved to reassure consumers that it still has sufficient stocks of influenza vaccines to meet expected levels of demand.

The pharmacy supplier is working with partners Alliance Healthcare and Phoenix, as well as health authorities across the UK, to ensure that supplies of Tamiflu and Relenza remain constant without needing to restrict order numbers.

Although the company stated that stock levels at a manufacturing level have been "exhausted", it does not expect to run out of doses before the end of January 2011 unless demand "surges unexpectedly".

It also acknowledged that some UK consumers have experienced difficulty in obtaining flu vaccine supplies, adding that the Department of Health is also aware of these concerns.

"The department is working with the NHS at the local level to ensure available supplies of surplus vaccine are moved to where there is a need for them," a statement from AAH added.

According to new Health Protection Agency figures this week, a total of 112 people have died of influenza since the beginning of the current flu season last October.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800341237-ADNFCR
