Abbott announces quarterly dividend

21st September 2009

Abbott’s board of directors has announced a quarterly common cash dividend of 40 cents (24p).

In a statement, the pharmaceutical organisation explained that this represents the 343rd consecutive payment of a quarterly dividend to shareholders since 1924.

The dividend is payable on November 15th to shareholders of record at the end of business on October 15th 2009.

Abbott stated that it has increased its dividend payout for 37 successive years, which included an 11 per cent increase earlier in 2009.

The firm added: “Abbott is a top performer of the S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats Index, which tracks companies that have annually increased their dividend for 25 consecutive years.”

It also noted that it has been named on the Fortune 40: Best stocks to retire on ranking.

Earlier this month, the company announced that its Ibis T5000 Biosensor system received the gold award in the 2009 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards.
