Abbott has announced that it has been ranked in a list compiling the top 50 companies for diversity from monthly business publication DiversityInc. This is the fourth successive year that the firm has been named as a leading firm for diversity by the magazine.
In the last year, Abbott attempted to increase diversity at the company in three distinct areas, these being hiring and advancement, leadership development and culture and environment.
The firm has a number employee networks for its 6,300 workers to promote diverse leadership at the company, including its Asian Cultural Leadership Network, Black Business Network, LA Voice Network, the Latino/Iberoamerican Network, the Part Time Network and Women Leaders In Action.
Steve Fussell, senior vice-president of human resources, said: “We believe that diverse perspectives combined with shared goals inspire new and better ways of addressing changing health care needs.”
He added that Abbott aimed to incorporate inclusion and diversity into all aspects of the employee experience at the company.
The firm notes that minorities make up 26 per cent of the firm’s workforce, while 47 per cent of the workforce is female.
Last December, employees at Abbott pledged to donate over $5.6 million (2.85 million pounds) to the Abbott Fund to support health services in local communities.
