Abbott previews new blood screening system
Abbott has demonstrated a preliminary version of its new next-generation blood screening system at the International Society of Blood Transfusion meeting in Amsterdam last week.
At an event held during the meeting, the company provided experts in the field with an opportunity to see a prototype of the device, as well as to offer feedback that will be incorporated into the system during later stages of its development.
The product already features a user-responsive design based upon insights provided by leading blood screening professionals, with the device to be optimised for the detection of conditions such as HIV and hepatitis B.
Luc Ruysen, divisional vice-president for diagnostics global strategy and emerging markets at Abbott, said: "Abbott's researchers, engineers, designers and scientists worked side-by-side with laboratorians to develop a next-generation solution with the features they desired."
Last month, the company announced that it has been granted European CE Mark approval for the new Xience Xpedition 48 everolimus-eluting coronary stent system, which is the longest device of its kind in the world.
