Abbott recognised on sustainability index for fourth year

5th September 2008

Abbott has been recognised on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the only US-based Fortune 100 healthcare manufacturer to be listed on the world and North America indices.

This accolade has been given as a result of the company’s continued global leadership in economic, environmental and social performance.

Sustainability leaders from a range of industries are analysed by the Dow Jones Sustainability annual review at a regional and global level.

It involves an assessment of their corporate governance, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards, labour practices and risk management.

The indices take into account general and industry-specific sustainability criteria for 57 industries included in the industry classification benchmark.

“As a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, Abbott is among the top ten per cent of the 2,500 largest companies worldwide in terms of sustainability,” the company said.

Abbott added that market participants play close attention to the annual review of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index family, with asset managers in 16 countries licensing the indices to manage portfolios driven by sustainability.

Earlier this month, Abbott said the Abbott Fund would collaborate with the Baylor College of Medicine and the Tanzanian and US governments to support the construction of an HIV/Aids clinic for children.
