Abbott’s FreeStyle LibreLink app launches in Europe for iOS

8th February 2018

Abbott has announced the launch of its FreeStyle LibreLink diabetes management app in Europe for compatible iOS and Android smart devices.

The app allows people with diabetes who use the FreeStyle Libre system to access glucose data directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to carry the separate FreeStyle Libre reader.

It uses near-field communication to communicate with the FreeStyle Libre sensor, instantly capturing real-time glucose levels, eight-hour glucose history and how glucose patterns are changing. The app also lets users add notes to track food, insulin use, medication and exercise.

Other advantages over the FreeStyle Libre reader include a larger, high-resolution display, text-to-speech capabilities for glucose readings, the ability to log smaller doses of insulin, and support for 26 languages.

This app has been available for Android devices since 2015, but has now been updated to add support for iOS smart devices.

Jared Watkin, senior vice-president of diabetes care at Abbott, said: "This is another step forward in making glucose monitoring seamlessly fit into a patient's daily lifestyle – helping them live a fuller, healthier life."
