Abbott’s managed lab services win praise from NHS trust

Abbott has been praised by the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for the quality of the laboratory services it has been provided with over the last few years.

The trusts' division of infection and immunity has been taking advantage of the benefits of Abbott's Architect platforms and other instruments to provide a fully-automated approach to lab operations.

Recently, the organisation merged its microbiology, virology and immunology services into a single blood sciences group, a process that was assisted by Abbott's facilities manager and team.

Experts from the life science firm helped the trust coordinate the transfer of equipment to maintain continuity of care, as well as assisting in the development of more efficient combined workflows.

Rebecca Stalham, marketing and contracts director at Abbott, said: "A managed service contract provides trusts with a cost-effective, guaranteed service, allowing laboratory staff to focus on high value work which ultimately leads to better patient care."

Abbott is soon to undergo a major operational shift when its pharmaceutical activities are separated into a new company called AbbVie, while its diagnostic operations will remain under the Abbott brand name.
