AbbVie opens first phase of new Singapore manufacturing facility

5th October 2016

AbbVie has opened the small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredient facility of its new Singapore manufacturing site at Tuas Biomedical Park.

The 120,000 sq m site is AbbVie's first manufacturing facility in Asia, with the opening of the new facility marking the first phase of a wider effort to bring the entire Singapore site into full operation by the end of 2018.

It will also include a biologics manufacturing facility, with the entire site representing a $320 million (251.65 million pounds) investment that will employ more than 250 new employees, the majority of whom will be hired locally in Singapore.

AbbVie's global manufacturing network now encompasses 13 locations across the US, Europe, Asia and Puerto Rico, as well as strategic partnerships with third-party manufacturers.

Dr Azita Saleki-Gerhardt, senior vice-president for operations at AbbVie, said: "Our goal as AbbVie is to assure patients around the world have access to new and innovative medicines when they need them and where they need them."

Together with its Pharmacyclics subsidiary, AbbVie employs more than 28,000 people worldwide, providing medicines to customers in over 170 countries.
