Acelity study shows clinical benefits of Prevena therapy

30th November 2017

Acelity has announced new clinical data that demonstrates the infection prevention benefits that Prevena therapy can offer for total arthroplasty patients.

New independent data published in the Journal of Arthroplasty has further demonstrated how closed incision negative pressure therapy with the Prevena incision management system is able to reduce post-surgical wound complication potential.

The trial of nearly 600 patients undergoing total joint replacement showed that Prevena therapy was associated with significantly lower rates of overall infection, and were four times less likely to experience a surgical site complication, compared with traditional gauze dressing.

Given that those requiring early surgical treatment for wound healing problems after total joint replacement are 7.5 times more likely to develop further complications, this potentially represents a significant step forward.

Dr Ron Silverman, chief medical officer at Acelity, said: "Prevena Therapy continues to demonstrate the ability to reduce the rate of postoperative incision related complications across a variety of surgical specialties."
