Actavis provides support for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts

28th December 2012

Actavis has provided donations of medical supplies to help families that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey last month.

The generic medicines specialist has contributed $200,000 (123,900 pounds) in antibiotics, paediatric therapies and other products via AmeriCares, a not-for-profit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organisation.

To date, Actavis has worked with AmeriCares on various relief programmes for more than two decades, donating more than $180 million to help people in 83 countries.

Geoff Kneisel, AmeriCares' vice-president of corporate relations, said: "The company's donations were an amazing help and were immediately delivered to healthcare providers and first responders in the most devastated areas."

This comes after Actavis was recently acquired by the US-based healthcare company Watson Pharmaceuticals, a deal that has created the third-largest generic pharmaceutical company in the world.

Watson has confirmed that it will be adopting Actavis as the new global name for the combined company from 2013 onwards.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801514043-ADNFCR
