Actelion announces executive changes ahead of merger completion

16th May 2017

Actelion has announced a number of changes to its executive team that will take effect upon the completion of its acquisition by Johnson and Johnson.

Jane Griffiths has been named by Johnson and Johnson as the new global head of the Actelion business, effective as of the closure of the deal, which is expected to take place at the end of the second quarter of 2017.

Dr Griffiths has served as the group chairman for Janssen's Europe, Middle East and Africa business since January 2011 and was also responsible for its market access unit, as well as heading up other Johnson and Johnson businesses over the years.

Coinciding with this announcement, it has been confirmed that Dr Otto Schwarz will retire from his position as chief operating officer of Actelion, though he has agreed to work closely with Dr Griffiths as a senior advisor for the 12 months following the completion of the merger.

During his time with the company, he has been credited with building the Tracleer product line into a global brand, while also overseeing the successful launches of Opsumit, Uptravi and Veletri.

Dr Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of Actelion, said: "I would like to thank Otto for his very significant contributions to the success of Actelion in the almost nine years since he joined the company."
