Actelion welcomes new head of business operations

Actelion has welcomed a new head of business operations with the appointment of Otto Schwarz who is to take over from Christian Chavy on January 14th 2008.

Mr Schwarz has served more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry in various business roles both in North America and Europe.

Actelion’s chief executive officer Jean-Paul Clozel expressed the company’s delight with the appointment, confirming that Actelion was proud to attract “such an experienced pharmaceutical business executive”.

“We are all very eager to work with Otto, given his broad experience at Schering-Plough and Altana/Nycomed,” Mr Clozel confirmed.

He went on to illustrate Mr Schwarz’s successes in managing organisational change and stated that this would be a “unique asset” for the company.

Mr Clozel also praised the work of the outgoing Christian Chavy, highlighting his contribution in building the company’s global sales and marketing organisation.

Mr Schwarz affirmed his excitement to be joining Actelion, confirming that he found it to be a first-rate global sales and marketing team.

“Never before in my professional career have I come across an organisation so committed to both first-rate innovation and outstanding marketing,” he added.

Last month, Actelion announced its financial results for the first nine months of 2007, with the company generating revenues of 946.4 million Swiss francs (395.3 million pounds) during the period, a rise of 38 per cent over the same period last year.
