Agilent launches new SureVector modular cloning kit
Agilent Technologies has announced the launch of SureVector, a new kit for creating customised vectors for cloning procedures.
Billed as the world's first modular vector kit for molecular cloning and DNA assembly, the kit provides a synthetic biology-based approach to creating vectors from small fragments of DNA, thus enabling these vectors to become functional in a variety of cell types.
The company is offering a extensively validated set of standardised parts that users can assemble into thousands of combinations, covering a huge portion of commercially available vectors.
This makes it possible to design, create and use a new custom vector in less than a day instead of two weeks, as is the case with current techniques. The new kit is also set to offer considerable cost-effectiveness benefits.
Jacob Thaysen, president of Agilent's diagnostics and genomics group, said: "SureVector enables biologists to quickly, efficiently and reliably construct customised vectors from standard components. It will change the way people think about and do molecular cloning."
During the first quarter of 2015, the company achieved year-on-year revenue growth of two percent. It expects that its new business structure, refreshed following the spinoff of its electronic measurement business, will enhance its future prospects.
