Agilent Technologies expands nucleic acids division

11th May 2009

Agilent Technologies has announced it is to expand its Nucleic Acids Solutions Division (NASD).

It is hoped the plans will allow the company to focus its business on the manufacture of therapeutic oligonucleotides – of which it hopes to be able to deliver "several hundred" kilograms per year.

The sector is one of the fastest-growing in the drug development industry and Agilent has seen a number of successes in getting its NASD products to biopharmaceutical users across various stages of progress.

It will now aim to boost these relationships while providing a flexible and cost-efficient solution for its customers.

James Powell, NASD general manager, commented: "We now have the ability to meet our customers’ growing needs with facilities, equipment and expertise across a broad range of nucleic acid [active pharmaceutical ingredients]."

Earlier this month, the firm unveiled a new probe kit for use in time-domain reflectometry and transition measurements.
