Agilent Technologies presents Early Career Professor Award to Caltech scientist
Agilent Technologies named Dr Mitchell Guttman as the winner of its seventh annual Early Career Professor Award.
The accolade recognises professors early in their careers for exceptional, original research contributions and outstanding potential for future studies. It helps Agilent form strong collaborative relationships with leading professors early in their professional lives.
Dr Guttman is an assistant professor of biology and biological engineering at the California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech, for research describing a new class of RNA called large intergenic noncoding RNA (lincRNAs).
These entities control gene expression and regulate important cellular processes, with Dr Guttman's research highlighting how lincRNA interacts with proteins and targets genomic regions. He is now further investigating their use in cellular engineering.
Winning this award will provide Dr Guttman with a source of financial support and the opportunity to work more closely with Agilent in future.
Jack Wenstrand, Agilent's director of university relations and external research, said: "The originality and significance of Dr Guttman's research is clear from the exceptional, early recognition of his work by the scientific community in a field that is receiving extensive academic attention."
