Agilent to develop pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Colorado

16th August 2016

Agilent Technologies has announced plans to construct a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility after acquiring 20 acres of land in Weld County, Colorado.

The development is expected to result in the creation of about 150 to 200 permanent high-paying jobs, while allowing the firm to more than double its commercial manufacturing capacity for nucleic acid active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Specifically, the facility will help Agilent to meet growing customer demand for oligonucleotides, a class of short DNA and RNA molecule that holds the potential to treat various forms of cancer, diabetes, muscular dystrophy and other disorders.

Local economic development agency Upstate Colorado worked to coordinate the project alongside the Town of Frederick, Weld County and the State of Colorado, thereby helping to accommodate Agilent's needs.

Skip Thune, general manager of the company's nucleic acids solutions division, said: "The products manufactured at this site will be used by our customers to improve the lives of patients suffering from a variety of diseases."

This comes after the firm recently completed the acquisition of the assets of iLab Solutions, a move that will enhance its position in the field of laboratory management software.
