AHDA seeking more members

24th December 2007

The Animal Health Distributors Association (AHDA) has reportedly called on more animal medicines companies to join it in order to help boost its influence with governmental organisations.

Ian Scott, general secretary of the AHDA, told Farmers Guardian that the organisation had previously enjoyed success in lobbying both the UK government and EU on issues affecting the animal medicines sector.

However, Mr Scott believes the association’s, and as a result the industry’s, bargaining power could be improved if more companies gave it their backing.

Many companies believe that by not supporting the AHDA they are preserving their neutrality, but that is not the case, he insisted.

“By sitting on the fence they are actually adopting a negative standpoint because we are unable to include their sales when lobbying the authorities on issues which affect the entire animal medicines industry,” added Mr Scott.

The AHDA was established to protect the right of its members to supply prescription medicines not requiring veterinary supervision.
