Alcon’s AcrySof IQ Aspheric IOL delivery system approved in Europe

1st July 2015

Alcon has announced that its new delivery system for the AcrySof IQ Aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) has been approved in Europe.

The UltraSert Pre-loaded Delivery System for the AcrySof IQ Aspheric IOL has received CE Mark accreditation for use in patients undergoing cataract surgery.

Key benefits of the new delivery system include the fact it combines the control of a manually loaded device with the safety and convenience of a disposable, pre-loaded injector. Its TensionGlide Plunger, a spring-controlled mechanism, is designed for smooth, controlled delivery of the AcrySof IQ IOL into the capsular bag.

The design of the new UltraSert Pre-loaded Delivery System also helps to create a less invasive corneal incision during cataract surgery.

Dr Franck Leveiller, Alcon's surgical head of research and development, said: "By simplifying the device preparation and maximising surgeon control in a single-use system, we have cleared the path for more streamlined procedures and potentially improved patient outcomes."

This comes after the company also received CE Mark approval for its AcrySof IQ PanOptix trifocal IOL last month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801793107-ADNFCR
