Align announces winners of university research awards programme

2nd June 2016

Align Technology has announced that 14 universities are to receive grants after being selected as the winners of its annual university research awards programme.

The 14 awards total $310,000 (214,700 pounds) and will be allocated to four US universities and eight in other countries. Each of the projects aims to find ways to improve treatment in orthodontics, dentistry and the uses of intraoral scanners.

International recipients of the awards include institutions in China, Taiwan, Spain, Germany, Italy and Argentina, with studies covering topics including root resorption, treatment stability, comparisons of the use of aligners versus fixed appliances, and the utility of aligners in surgical treatment.

Two intraoral scanner research award recipients have also been announced, with Dr Sarah Rolland and Ania Cala at Newcastle University among the winners.

All proposals received were reviewed by an independent academic committee in a blind evaluation. The research award programme is set to return again in 2017, with submission details to be announced later this year.

John Morton, Align Technology's senior technical fellow, said: "Align is honoured to be able to provide this opportunity for researchers who endeavour to improve dental and orthodontic treatment of patients worldwide."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801819657-ADNFCR
