Align Technology launches Invisalign First aligners for paediatric use

5th April 2018

Align Technology has announced the launch of its new Invisalign First clear aligners, which are specifically designed for paediatric patients receiving initial treatment.

These new aligners have been developed with features specifically for younger patients with early mixed dentition – a mixture of baby teeth and permanent teeth – who are undergoing phase I before all of their permanent teeth have erupted.

They can be used to address a broad range of malocclusions affecting younger patients, including shorter clinical crowns, management of erupting dentition, and predictable dental arch expansion.

Other unique features include optimised attachments designed for younger patients with shorter tooth crowns, SmartStage technology that accounts for the tooth movement specific to phase I staging patterns, and SmartTrack aligner material that fits comfortably while applying gentle, constant force to the teeth.

Dr Mitra Derakhshan, Align Technology's global clinical vice-president, said: "Younger patients have smaller teeth with shorter crowns and anatomical differences that require specific features for phase I treatment. Invisalign First is the first clear aligner product designed with software driven features specifically for younger patients."
