Align Technology provides funding for university dental research
Align Technology has announced the recipients of its annual research award programme, which provides funding for universities undertaking orthodontic and dental research.
Now in its eighth year, the scheme is providing nearly $300,000 (232,860 pounds) to researchers at universities in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, following assessment of the applications by an independent academic committee.
A team led by Dr Padhraig Fleming at Queen Mary University of London was among the European recipients of a grant, with other winning bids submitted by universities in the US, Canada, China, Italy, Greece and Spain.
The studies cover a wide range of topics, including dentinogenesis imperfecta, the removal of attachments, the use of ClinCheck software in tooth positioning, and the effectiveness of Align's Invisalign product compared to fixed lingual appliance treatment.
Zelko Relic, Align Technology's vice-president of research and development, said: "We are pleased to support universities around the world aimed at the improvement of dental and orthodontic patient care."
