Align Technology to provide funding for global dental research
Align Technology has announced plans to provide grants to international research projects in the field of malocclusion, or misalignment of teeth.
In 2011, the Invisalign manufacturer will be offering $50,000 (31,711 pounds) to international applicants to conduct scientific research into clear aligner treatment technology for the condition.
Up to five grants of $10,000 each will be provided for full-time or part-time international university faculties engaging in orthodontic research, as well as non-specialist facilities whose work can contribute to the field.
This represents an expansion of its existing US-based Clear Aligner Research Award Program, which currently provides $100,000 to applicants based in North America.
Eric Kuo, vice-president of clinical technology at Align, said: "We are excited to extend the research programme in support of greater academic understanding and advancement of clear aligner therapy around the world."
In October 2010, the firm published its third quarter financial report for the year, noting significant year-on-year gains in terms of revenue and profit levels.
