Align Technology’s Invisalign reaches one million teenage users

25th May 2017

Align Technology has announced that more than one million teenage patients worldwide have commenced treatment with its Invisalign clear aligner system.

More than 100,000 Invisalign-trained doctors around the world have been helping these young patients to experience the benefits of Invisalign treatment, which are designed to be more discreet and easy to remove than conventional braces.

During the first quarter of 2017 alone, 49,000 teenagers started treatment with Invisalign, an increase of 32 percent year on year. This is around ten times more than the overall orthodontic industry growth rate, which is in the low to mid-single-digit percentage range.

It reflects substantially higher use of Invisalign among teenage patients, and shows that Align's products are experiencing market share gains from metal braces.

Raphael Pascaud, Align Technology's chief marketing officer, said: "Align continues to challenge metal braces as the status quo method for straightening teeth by educating parents about the benefits of Invisalign clear aligners, while ensuring teenagers know Invisalign treatment is the best option for their lifestyle."

In total, 4.5 million patients have started treatment with Invisalign clear aligners, according to figures from April 2017.
