Allen and Page opts into universal horse feed code

8th December 2009

Allen and Page has revealed that it has signed up for the British Equestrian Trade Association’s (BETA) Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances (NOPS) code.

The scheme was developed by BETA in conjunction with assurance scheme experts after an increase in positive dope tests for morphine in racehorses, the firm informs.

According to the international rules and the British Horseracing Authority’s (BHA’s) guidelines for the sport, any level of substances that could affect performance is unacceptable – with the exception of theobromine.

Professor Tim Morris, director of equine science and welfare for the BHA, commented: “By significantly reducing the risk of NOPS, the new code provides important protection for those competing or racing under [the] rules.”

Other codes that Allen and Page honours include the UKASTA Feed Assured guidelines and the Soil Association License.

Last month, Allen and Page made an appearance at the Your Horse Live show, where its founders William and Pippa Funnell were on hand to meet and greet visitors.
