Allergan completes acquisition of LifeCell
Allergan has announced the completion of its takeover of LifeCell in a deal worth approximately $2.9 billion (2.32 billion pounds).
The acquisition of the leading regenerative medicine company will give Allergan the capability to build a world-class aesthetic and regenerative medicine business in the field of plastic surgery by combining assets from both organisations.
Allergan has taken ownership of LifeCell's novel regenerative medicines business, including its high-quality and durable portfolio of dermal matrix products. The Acellular Dermal Matrices are commonly used in breast reconstruction procedures and complex hernia surgeries
Other key products include Alloderm, a human allograft tissue matrix used in breast reconstruction post-mastectomy, the high-volume fat grafting device Revolve and the porcine-based tissue matrix Strattice, used in complex abdominal wall repair and for the surgical reconstruction of damaged or ruptured soft tissue.
In addition to these commercial products, Allergan has also acquired LifeCell's innovative manufacturing capabilities and its research and development operations, based in New Jersey.
Brent Saunders, chairman and chief executive officer of Allergan, said: "The combination of LifeCell's novel regenerative medicine products coupled with Allergan's innovative medical aesthetics and plastic surgery portfolio creates a more complete product offering for plastic surgeons globally."
