Almirall presents Pharmacology Award 2009

21st September 2009

Almirall has presented the 2009 Pharmacology Award to Dr Mercedes Salaices, it has announced.

In a statement, the organisation explained that the accolade was given to the industry participant during the 31st Spanish Society of Pharmacology Congress, which it sponsors.

Dr Salaices received the award and a cash prize for a project entitled Cyclooxygenase 2 – microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 and vascular alterations associated with Hypertension.

Of the study, Alimirall’s Dr Gavalda said: “It is well-structured and anticipates promising results at a time when the population of hypertensive patients is increasing.”

The jury that was responsible for selecting the winning project was made up of members of staff from Almirall and Francisco Zaragoza, president of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology.

Earlier this month, the company announced plans to file a marketing authorisation application for its muscarinic antagonist Eklira – which is used in the management of COPD – with the European Medicines Agency early next year.
