Amgen and Wyeth sponsor psoriasis awareness campaign

5th March 2009

Amgen and Wyeth are sponsoring a campaign aimed at raising awareness of plaque psoriasis.

The companies have announced they will work with TV presenter and fashion expert Tim Gunn to help sufferers learn more about managing the condition and feeling more confident.

Amgen cited a survey conducted in 2007 by the National Psoriasis Foundation, which found that 63 per cent of people affected by this disease said they experienced “significant” self-consciousness and 49 per cent reported “significant” pain.

The project is aimed at demonstrating personal style need not be affected by psoriasis and it “doesn’t have to define who you are”, said Gunn.

Assistant clinical professor of dermatology at theUniversity of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, Dr Taylor, added: “I urge people with psoriasis to visit a dermatologist to learn more about their disease and find a treatment regimen that may work for them.”

In related Amgen news, the company announced last month it had submitted an application for a biologics licence regarding denosumab, which is an investigational Rank Ligand inhibitor.
