Amgen earnings per share increase 6 per cent

Amgen’s earnings per share rose six per cent to $1.06 (0.74 pounds) over 2008, it has been revealed.

The company also announced in its fourth-quarter and full-year figures that revenue during the same time was $15 billion – a two per cent growth on $14.7 billion in 2007.

The organisation noted its adjusted net income over 2008 was $4.885 billion, a two per cent rise from the previous year.

Commenting on the results, Kevin Sharer, chairman and chief executive officer of the group, said he was “proud” of the business’s performance.

Adding he was “excited” about the company’s prospects in 2009 and beyond, he commented: “While Amgen faces a range of challenges in today’s environment, I am confident we are ready.”

In October, Amgen revealed its third-quarter revenue had increased seven per cent to $3.9 billion.

The company added its earnings per share over the same period had risen 14 per cent to $1.23.
