Amgen to share new Repatha data at this year’s ESC Congress

Amgen has announced that it will be presenting 11 abstracts at this year's European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in Rome.

Between August 27th and 31st, the company will be discussing data evaluating its drug Repatha – a PCSK9 inhibitor for the treatment of patients with high cholesterol – across a number of cardiovascular risk subgroups.

Further long-term efficacy and safety data will also highlight the potential benefits of Repatha treatment in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, a genetically-inherited condition.

In addition, an analysis of familial hypercholesterolemia diagnosis and prevalence will be presented, as well as a presentation on the trends of high-intensity statin therapy after myocardial infarction, and the effects of recurrent coronary heart disease and mortality risk among these patients.

Finally, a multi-ethnic study will be presented on the residual risks of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in statin-treated adults.

Dr Sean Harper, executive vice-president of research and development at Amgen, said: "The findings presented at ESC 2016, alongside the six new clinical trials that have begun in the last year, will better define the benefit of Repatha for the many patients who continue to struggle with hypercholesterolemia."
