Applied Biosystems company scoops drug discovery award

Applied Biosystems’ Life Technologies has been singled out for an award recognising its contribution to the pharmaceutical industry.

The firm, which specialises in biotechnology tools for use in creating new treatments, took the title of Best North American Drug Discovery Technologies Company.

Frost & Sullivan, the group behind the accolades, also announced Life Technolgies’ chairman and chief executive Greg Lucier had been named as the 2009 CEO of the Year.

"I am honoured to accept these awards on behalf of all the employees at Life Technologies," Mr Lucier commented. "We are proud to bring our customers innovations across the biological spectrum to advance their research."

He added future goals of the company included the acceleration of new treatments in the pursuit of making "life better for everyone".

The group was formed as part of the 2008 merger between Applied Biosystems and Invitrogen to create a dedicated science tools provider.
