Applied Biosystems DNA extraction system launched

10th August 2010

Applied Biosystems has released a new DNA extraction system which is optimised to make it easier to prepare samples while safeguarding research quality.

Life Technologies, operator of the Applied Biosystems brand, has launched the AutoMate Express Forensic DNA Extraction System, a benchtop device which allows lysis and substrate separation to be performed in a single step.

It utilises PrepFiler technology to reduce the need to handle forensic evidence, as well as maximising the efficient recovery of DNA from potentially challenging sample types.

The product has already been successfully launched in Japan, where it has been adopted by all 48 of the government’s forensic laboratories.

Dr Leonard Klevan, president of the human identification business at Life Technologies, said: “We’re confident that DNA extracted on the AutoMate Express System will increase data quality for a wide range of forensic samples and facilitate improved downstream performance in the sample analysis workflow.”

Earlier this month, Life Technologies published its financial report for the second quarter of the fiscal year, during which it experienced an eight per cent growth in revenue.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800018930-ADNFCR
