Applied Biosystems DNA solutions being used to fight crime

20th February 2009

Applied Biosystems’ forensic DNA solutions are being successfully used for a range of criminal investigations, including robbery, automobile theft and other property misdemeanours.

The company states these technologies are being implemented by many law enforcement groups to help reduce illegal activity.

Sonny Jackson, public information officer at the Denver police department, explains the capacity of forensic DNA to help solve crimes over the past couple of years has been well documented.

Dr Leonard Klevan, division president of the applied markets business at Applied Biosystems, adds: "Streamlining forensic DNA testing is enabling law enforcement agencies to apply this powerful technology that was once reserved almost exclusively for violent crimes to a broader range of case work evidence."

Applied Biosystems recently collaborated with the Mayo Clinic in order to carry out research into the mechanisms of head and neck cancer development using the digital gene expression capabilities of the company’s SOLiD system.ADNFCR-1050-ID-19037945-ADNFCR
