Applied Biosystems’ LTF announces grant recipients

12th June 2009

Applied Biosystems’ (AB) Life Technologies Foundation (LTF) has announced details of a new initiative to help fund research and development in the field of biotechnology.

The company, which was formed as part of the 2008 merger between AB and Invitrogen Corporation, has revealed it will invest $2 million (1.2 million pounds) in grants to three global science institutions.

Money will be given to promote the advancement of scientific study at the University of North Texas for DNA-PROKIDS, the New York Academy of Sciences and the Science Museum in London.

Greg Lucier, chairman and chief executive officer of LTF, said the company was proud to be able to get involved with the three non-profit organisations chosen to benefit from the funding.

"The grantees we have chosen are working to demystify science to the public by providing training and access for using biology to make life even better," he added.

In addition, the firm unveiled plans this week to sponsor the EO Wilson Foundation’s BioBlitz educational program with an award of $50,000.
