Applied Biosystems reveals new cancer research tool

17th April 2008

Applied Biosystems has developed a range of new microRNA (miRNA) analysis tools.

The new products are the Megaplex RT Pools and PreAmp Primers and the TaqMan miRNA Arrays.

When used together, they will provide researchers with a TaqMan-based solution designed to streamline the workflow for analysis and provide broad, up-to-date coverage of known miRNAs expressed in biological samples, according to the company.

Dr Caifu Chen, a scientific fellow for research and development at the firm, said: "Together, these tools give researchers a powerful technology that allows them to create comprehensive profiles of microRNAs expressed in cancer samples."

He added: "The use of these new tools should help researchers develop biomarkers for cancer, better understand cancer stem cells, and further elucidate the role of miRNAs in the development and progression of cancer."

The firm said that research related to miRNAs is one of the fastest-growing areas in biomedical research.

It added that previous research suggests these molecules regulate gene expression and have been implicated in a number of diseases including cancer.

Applied Biosystems claims to be a leader in the life science marketplace focused on research and testing.ADNFCR-1050-ID-18555746-ADNFCR
