AstraZeneca and IMS Health announce evidence collaboration

13th January 2012

AstraZeneca has entered into a new collaboration with IMS Health that will aim to advance the use of real-world evidence in healthcare delivery.

Under the terms of the three-year alliance, IMS Health will provide AstraZeneca with access to pre-existing anonymised electronic health records, including information on clinical outcomes, economic data and treatment patterns.

This data will help to provide clinical teams with insight into how approved medicines are working in real-world European settings, facilitating the delivery of effective and cost-efficient healthcare.

Using practical data of this kind can offer advantages of results from controlled clinical trials, as it can illuminate treatment impact on measurable outcomes such as length of hospital stays, readmissions and total cost of care.

Martin Mackay, AstraZeneca's president of research and development, said: "This insight will help us and healthcare decision-makers to improve the treatment of disease and ensure effective use of medicines to minimise the burden on individuals and healthcare budgets."

This comes after the company allied with the Medical Research Council to provide British academics with access to its clinical compound library for research purposes.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801263653-ADNFCR
