AstraZeneca appoints new chief adviser for genomics initiative
AstraZeneca has announced the appointment of Professor David Goldstein in the consultative role of chief adviser for the company's work in the genomics field.
Professor Goldstein will help lead the new ten-year integrated genomics initiative announced by the company in April, which will focus on the discovery of new targets and biomarkers linked to molecular mechanisms of disease across AstraZeneca's main therapy areas.
A celebrated expert in the fields of human genetic diversity, the genetics of disease and pharmacogenetics, Professor Goldstein will be responsible for driving the scientific progress of the genomics initiative.
He will continue in his full-time role as director of the Institute for Genomic Medicine and professor of genetics and development at Columbia University Medical Center alongside his work with AstraZeneca.
Mene Pangalos, executive vice-president for innovative medicines and early development and global business development at AstraZeneca, said: "David is a world-renowned expert in genomics, and his expertise will help to accelerate the integration of genomics across our entire research and development pipeline."
AstraZeneca's new Centre for Genomics Research is based in Cambridge, with teams located across the company's research and development sites in the US, UK and Sweden.
