AstraZeneca awards contract to Infosys

16th December 2008

AstraZeneca has awarded Infosys a five-year global sourcing contract.

Under the agreement, AstraZeneca will receive end-to-end application maintenance services, including manufacturing, supply chain, human resources and finance and other corporate functions.

The company says the deal is part of its initiative to accelerate innovation and bring products to market faster.

Richard Williams, global chief information officer at AstraZeneca, said Infosys was chosen as a “strategic partner” to understand the “rapidly shifting dynamics” in the pharmaceutical industry.

He added: “We have confidence in Infosys’ ability to deliver a flexible operating model to address our changing business needs more efficiently.”

The delivery of the services will be through a global shared-services model, which is set to allow AstraZeneca a fixed price for outcome-based deliverables and flexible unit pricing for the management of any changes.

The company’s transformation of its operations is being undertaken in multiple phases, beginning in the UK and Scandinavia.

Last week, AstraZeneca announced it had returned worldwide rights to Infinity Pharmaceuticals.

The privileges regard the development and commercialisation of Infinity’s heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) drug candidates IPI-504 (MEDI-561) and IPI-493, which are used in development for the treatment of cancer and related conditions.
