AstraZeneca names new board member and science committee member
AstraZeneca has announced the appointment of Professor Nazneen Rahman as a new member of its board of directors.
Professor Rahman, the head of the division of genetics and epidemiology at London's Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), will become a non-executive director, while also taking up a place on AstraZeneca's corporate science committee.
In addition to her role at ICR, the professor serves as head of the cancer genetics unit at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and is an internationally renowned expert in the field of cancer predisposition genes.
She has personally helped to discover many of these genes during her career, particularly for breast, ovarian and childhood cancers, and received a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours in 2016 in recognition of her contribution to medical sciences.
Leif Johansson, chairman of AstraZeneca, said: "We are delighted to welcome Professor Rahman to our board and science committee. She brings world-renowned expertise in genetic research with a focus on cancer, which is a strategic therapy area for our business."
