B Braun reports positive trial data for SeQuent Please balloon

13th March 2012

B Braun has reported positive clinical trial data from a new study of its drug-eluting balloon SeQuent Please for the treatment of restenosis.

The paclitaxel-coated balloon device was recently evaluated as a means of addressing symptoms of the condition following implantation of an uncoated stent, compared to an uncoated balloon.

It was found that B Braun's device was significantly more effective in reducing late lumen loss and early clinical events compared with conventional balloon angioplasty, particularly in terms of target lesion revascularisation.

This is the latest in a line of trials that have supported the efficacy of the device, which has received recommendations from organisations such as the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Gerd Wacker, vice president for vascular systems at B Braun, said: "With the current clinical evidence, SeQuent Please can be considered as a reasonable alternative to drug-eluting stents for selected patients with coronary artery disease."

Last month, the company announced plans to acquire Nutrichem, a move that will help to expand its presence in the clinical nutrition market.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801316583-ADNFCR
